UC Law Journal is currently accepting submissions for Volume 78 (2026–2027)
UC Law Journal gladly considers unsolicited manuscripts by members of the legal community. However, we only publish student Notes from within our own membership.
The Journal reviews submissions one to two times a year: in the late winter or early spring (tentatively scheduled for mid-February), and occasionally in the late summer (tentatively scheduled for August 1). We review submissions through Scholastica. In addition to articles, the Journal welcomes submissions of essays, speeches, responses, and other forms of scholarly publication.
The UC Law Journal currently only publishes manuscripts in English.
Please note the Journal will no longer be giving automatic reprints. However, we will work with you to order them through our publisher.
Scholastica Submission Requirements
The UC Law Journal is currently open for submissions through Scholastica for Volume 78 (2026–2027). Submissions opened on February 1, 2026.
Scholastica Submission Requirements
- Submissions should be double-spaced and typewritten with citations in either footnote or endnote style. We prefer articles that are under 30,000 words, including text and footnotes — approximately 60 law review pages.
- Citations should conform to The Bluebook (22nd edition 2025).
- All submissions should be accompanied by a CV and a brief abstract. All necessary contact information should also be included.

Review Process
The Journal carefully reviews the manuscripts it selects. This process begins by hand selection from our articles department who then work with our faculty advisers to evaluate the quality and interest before making an offer. Offers for publication are made over email with a window given for acceptance.
Expedited Review
In the event an author is presented with a deadline from another publication, we will make every effort to expedite review of their work. Unfortunately, we will only be able to expedite review during the school year (mid-August through mid-May). We understand the complexities this situation raises; however, we hope you understand the process takes time and we are not able to omit stages in our review process.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Disclosure Policy
The UC Law Journal is committed to preserving the integrity and originality of legal scholarship while recognizing the growing role of artificial intelligence (“AI”) in research and writing.
Authors must ensure that all submissions reflect their own independent intellectual work. AI tools may be used in limited, supportive ways–such as brainstorming, broad research orientation, or minor copy editing–but may not substitute for substantive authorship.
Mandatory Disclosure
Authors are required to disclose any use of generative AI that materially contributed to the research, drafting, or revision of their submission. That disclosure should briefly identify the tool used and how it was used. Author may submit their disclosure via Scholastica’s discussion feature or, for submissions sent by email, directly to the Executive Articles Editors at articles@uclawjournal.org. Disclosure will not, in itself, affect editorial consideration.
Author Responsibility
Authors should use their best judgement in determining what constitutes a significant use requiring disclosure. The UC Law Journal does not expect disclosure of minor uses. However, disclosure is expected where AI is used to generate substantial portions of the manuscript, formulate major arguments, or conduct empirical or analytical work.
All authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy and reliability of their work. Any AI-assisted content must be independently verified, and submission must not contain fabricated or unverifiable sources.
Failure to comply with this policy may be grounds for rescission of acceptance.
